Excellent question! Well, for starters its fun for your munchkins. They will make loads of friends, run, jump, swing and zoom about Dalguise on exciting activities... but don't take my word, here's Taylor, a stalwart of Dalguise, to big it up instead.
What will I (or my darling munchkins) do over the weekend?
Another super question! You, or your darling munchkin or munchkins, will arrive on Friday after 4pm. Settle into an allocated room, followed by a group induction and tour of Dalguise, and meet the staff and group leaders of the fun-filled weekend.
Then as a group we head up to the catering hall and have a mega tasty dinner, a bit of free time then 2 rounds of chess before a snooze session. On Saturday morning we wake your munchkins up at an unholy hour, 8 at the latest, 7 at the earliest, march up to breakfast to get our energy for the day, march back to the accomdoation and get ready for the day's activities and the get cracking!

2 activities in the morning, lunch, 2 activities in the afternoon, dinner, 3-4 rounds of chess, snooze sesh.
Same again on the Sunday, except this time more moans and groans about the unholy hour of awakening and concludes with prizegiving which we really appreciate if you stay for and collection of your munchkins.
Your munchkins will do one of 2 things on the way home - talk ALL the way home, OR! Fall asleep before they get to the end of the Dalguise drive.
Who organises this super duper, fun-filled fab weekend?!
Well, that would be me. Lynsey Shovlin. With my right hand man, my dad, John. You can see our cheesy poses to your right.
I had the idea for an activity Chess weekend at Dalguise when i was 14, hounded my dad to phone and for us to try and give it a bash. The event has always had the aim of being social and bringing together young chess players from across Scotland, whilst promoting the game positively to the wider community.
We will always try and do what we think is best for the litte munchkins. We try our best to support and encourage them, treating everyone with respect. We believe on the weekend we are one big group, not leaders vs munchkins. Every effort is made for everyone involved to be approachable because we know they are nice munchkins and we genuinely enjoy helping them to develop their potential and have a happy time.
Credit must also be given to our supporting cast of helpers, who are our extra eyes and ears. They vary each year and are invited for different reasons. We look for helpers who are enthusiastic and understanding, so if you think (mums and dads) that you fall in to this role and would like to come along, please do let us know!!
Excited and want to come?!! ... or send your darling munchkins?
